When visiting northern Britannia in 122 AD, the Roman Emperor Hadrian Augustus witnessed the aftermath of war between his armies and the savage Picts. To show off Roman might, he ordered a wall to be built to separate the Pict tribes from the rest of England. Grand in its design, the wall stretched for 80 Roman miles, from coast to coast.

In Hadrians Wall, players take on the role of a Roman General, responsible for building a fort and a border wall. Over six years (rounds), players will build their fort and wall, man defenses, and attract civilians by providing services and entertainment all while defending the Roman honor from the warring Picts. The player who can amass the most renown, piety, valor and discipline, while avoiding contempt, will prove to the Emperor that they are the exemplary Roman citizen and be crowned Legatus Legionis!
