In Terraforming Mars Ares Expedition: Crisis, players take on the role of corporations, just like in the original Ares Expedition. You choose phases and play project cards as usual. The difference is that players cooperate to keep Mars habitable after a natural disaster has struck the planet in crisis. Each round, a new Crisis card is drawn, requiring players to achieve a certain goal to remove the crisis from the game. Each turn that a Crisis card is not fully handled, it will lower one or more of the terraforming metrics that keep Mars habitable.

Handle all crises as they arise. Finally, a Crisis card will be drawn that allows players to win the game once they have completed the re-terraforming of Mars.
